Parking and daily driving
Tires track in dirt and cars drip oil, and on bare concrete that soaks in and stays. A coated floor gives you a smoother surface you can sweep and wipe instead of scrub.
Dusty, stained or peeling garage concrete? We grind it, coat it right and leave you a smooth floor that's easy to sweep and wipe.

A garage floor coating in Monterey is an epoxy layer we put down over your concrete after grinding it, which leaves you a smoother floor that's easier to keep clean than bare slab, and you'll want to plan around a few days of cure time before the car goes back in.
Most people call us when the garage floor is dusty, stained with oil or peeling from an old coating, and that old coating was usually rushed before it went down. What moves the price is the size of the garage, the shape the concrete's in, whether old paint or coating has to come off, whether the slab needs a moisture step and the finish you pick.
The schedule turns on the slab too, because a new pour or a damp slab has to be dealt with before we coat, and then there's cure time before you can park again. You get a written estimate after I've seen the floor, so you'll know your own number before anything starts. We're based in Monterey and work across the peninsula and the cities around it, up through Salinas and over to Watsonville.
I learned this trade hauling grinders and mixing buckets for people who'd done it for years, and I started this business in Monterey in 2013, so prep is where I start.
Our crew does the work with my lead installer running the job, and I'm on site checking in, so the person who looked at your floor sees it again.
If a simpler option suits your garage better than a full coating, I'll tell you, because I want you to know what you're paying for before you pay for it.
Garage floors take tires, oil and wet shoes, so the first thing we do is grind the concrete. Grinding opens the surface up to a texture about like fine sandpaper, which gives the coating something to grab, because smooth, poorly prepped concrete is what coatings peel off of. Most peeling floors I get called to look at were rushed right at this step, so we don't skip it, and every floor we coat is backed by our satisfaction guarantee.
Coated concrete can get slick when it's wet, so if your garage sees wet tires, a dripping wetsuit or the dog coming in from the yard, we'll talk about mixing grit into the coat for better footing. I'd rather you decide on that now than after the first slip.
The other thing people don't think about is where everything goes while the floor cures, so we help you sort that out ahead of time, from where the cars park to where the shelves and bins sit. If you want a different look or a different coating, we also do polyaspartic floor coatings and metallic epoxy flooring, and I'll go over which one fits the way you use the space.

Rolling carts, dropped tools and the odd spill are easier to live with on a coated floor, and you're not kicking up the dust bare concrete sheds every time you sweep.
If the garage is where wet shoes, beach towels and the dog come through, tell us when I come out, since how wet the floor gets shapes what we put down.
Shelving, bins and workout gear sit on a clean, even surface that doesn't leave grit on everything, though the heavy stuff has to wait until the coating cures before it moves back.
Send the form and we'll reply within one business day to set a time. I'll come out, look at the floor, measure and test the slab, and you get a free written estimate with no obligation.
The age of the concrete changes how I test it and when we can start, so a rough idea of when it was poured helps us plan before I come out.
Old paint or an old coating has to be dealt with before a new one goes on, so let us know it's there and roughly how much of the floor it covers.
If you ran the plastic sheet test from the questions below, tell us whether you saw droplets or darker concrete, since that can add a step to the job.

Here's what Monterey homeowners usually ask about moisture, cure time, permits and licenses before they book a garage floor coating.
It's worth checking, and you can run a simple test yourself. One coating maker's guide says to tape a sheet of plastic over bare concrete for 24 hours, and if you see droplets or the concrete underneath turns darker, moisture is trapped in the slab. That maker then calls for its own moisture product before coating, which adds a step. I test the slab when I come out either way.
With one maker's coating at 68°F, it's at least 72 hours before a light vehicle can go on it. The same guide calls for at least 24 hours before you walk on it and 7 days before the coating reaches full chemical resistance. Those are one maker's figures, so I'll give you the times for the coating going on your floor.
One maker says newly poured concrete should cure for at least 28 days before it's coated. If your slab is fresh, the pour date sets the earliest day we can start, and we'll schedule around it. Tell us when it was poured when you call, since that shapes the whole timeline.
Check with the city before work starts, and we do that for you. The City of Monterey advises checking with its Building and Safety Division before any project, and it requires a permit to alter or repair any regulated building or structure. We ask the building office before we start, and if one's needed we take care of the paperwork with you.
You can look a contractor up with the Contractors State License Board. The city points owners to the board's website, cslb.ca.gov, and its toll-free number to check a license before hiring. California's minor work exemption from a license went from $500 to $1,000, and it only covers work that needs no permit where the unlicensed person employs no one. We're licensed and insured.
Old paint usually has to come off first, because a coating only grips as well as whatever's under it. Scraping, sanding or removing old paint can release lead dust, which is toxic, so if your floor has old paint, tell us when you call. Whoever you hire, ask how they handle taking it off.
